Planning Memorial
and Funeral Services
Kenwood Church is available for funerals and memorial services of both members and visitors. Our Pastor, or the moderator of the deacons, will handle the details of the service with you, with your wishes being of paramount importance.
Our Pastor, or the moderator of the deacons, will plan and officiate at all memorial services and funerals held in the church. Another pastor may assist you, with family, friends, or appropriate others are invited to share in the service.
WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE
While every Service is unique, most Memorial/Funeral Services include the following, and you will receive assistance:
Eulogies
The sharing of memories greatly adds to the beauty of a Service and helps us to celebrate the life of your loved one.
SERVICE MUSIC
The principal use of music in the Service shall be religious. Secular music may fit more appropriately at the reception; such details can be best discussed with our Pastor, or the moderator of the deacons.
The following are examples of musical genres to consider:
HOLDING A MEMORIAL/FUNERAL SERVICE
A Memorial or Funeral Service is a special opportunity to intentionally pause while mourning the loss of a loved one. The Service provides an opportunity to affirm the wonder of God’s love, whose promise in Jesus Christ is that death itself has been overcome. The Service also provides an opportunity to celebrate how God’s grace was manifest in the life of your loved one.
As a result, the Service is meant to provide support and assurance to those in mourning.
Our goal is to honor and celebrate the life of your loved one in the context of God’s power to sustain us and bring us the hope that comes from the promise of eternal life.
PLANNING THE SERVICE
Our Pastor, or the moderator of the deacons, will meet with you and your family to discuss your special wishes for your loved one’s service. This includes planning the order of the service, music selections, and the bulletin. You may choose to use our organist, pianist, and/or soloists. Our goal is to help you plan a Service that honors and celebrates your loved one.
HOW AM I INCLUDED IN PLANNING THE SERVICE?
The Pastor encourages families to take part in planning the Service. Scripture readings, hymns, poems, songs, and sharing to help us celebrate the life of your loved one. You will receive assistance in planning the service from the Pastor, Deacons, Music Director, and Church Secretary as you design a service that is fitting for your family.
